Alessia Sergon is a bundle of contagious energy. Kinesiologist, mother, Community Manager of Team Italy ASICS FrontRunner and creator of the project "Mamma, che corsa!", Alessia has transformed her passion for sport into a lifestyle that inspires women and mothers every day to carve out moments of well-being through running.
She also collaborates with Julia Jones on the project "Correre al Femminile", an initiative that promotes running among women of all ages. In this interview, she tells us about her journey, the challenges she faced and how sport can be a powerful ally in everyday life.
Alessia, let's start with you: who are you, what do you do in life and how did your passion for running begin?
Here I am! I'm Alessia: mother, community manager, kinesiologist... and of course Francesco's wife. Born in Trieste, I have lived in various cities in ' Italy for study and work, and I returned home when Anna, my little girl, was born.
I grew up with many sports, and this passion led me to choose Sports Sciences as my university course. I wouldn't say that I started running “ when I grow up”: running is something we all know how to do, since we were little. It’s just that as we grow up, we often forget about it.
Today, running is part of my life. It's passion, it's work, it's freedom .
What role has running had - and continues to have - in your life as a woman, mother and professional?
All ' I started out thinking that running without a ball was boring (I played and coached basketball for many years). Then I discovered that running is a gift we can give ourselves every day.
It's my time to decompress, when my thoughts come together.
As a mother, I can say that running lightens the mental load that often accompanies us. Just a few kilometers are enough to see everything more clearly again. As a professional, I am happy to have believed in it and, above all, to have been ready. I never feel like I have arrived: I attend courses, masters, updates.
The desire to grow and share is never lacking. I watch the sofa from afar, my cat takes care of using it :-)
Mom, what a race! A name, a project: how did it come about and what does it represent today?
Mom, what a race! was born from a dream I had during my pregnancy. I dreamed of a little girl with blue eyes, at the finish line, who shouted at me: “ Mom! What a race!”
When Anna was born and I saw her eyes, I thought: who knows if one day...
And that day has come: Anna is often at the finish line waiting for me, she runs the kids run, and every time she shouts that very phrase. It's our ritual, our why . On social media, the project wants to inspire mothers and women to move, to understand that they are not stealing anyone's time, but are improving it.
An active mother is a more present mother. A woman who runs is full of energy.
You are also the Community Manager of Team Italy ASICS FrontRunner. Tell us how it all started.
In 2018 I joined the team as an ASICS FrontRunner. All ' At the time I was running in Cesena with Women in Run, I shared content on social media, and I had a pair of fuchsia GT-2000s that I still keep like a medal.
In 2020, in the midst of lockdown, the ' opportunity: I became community manager of the Italy team, part of the ASICS Global Running Community. For me, who deeply believe in “ Sound Mind, Sound Body” is a dream come true.
Every day is a discovery, every day you learn something: from colleagues, from teammates, from the stories that pass through us. The comparison is continuous, and this pushes me to always give more.
You also collaborate with Julia Jones on the project “ Running as a Woman”. What does it mean to you?
Julia is an amazing guide, coach, and professional. She is also my coach, and I have seen so many women reach important milestones thanks to her.
Working with her means collaborating with someone who puts facts before words. This ' year we launched two special editions of courses. Corri Serena, running according to your biotype, together with Doctor Serena Missori.
Three women, one ' sole mission: to move as many women as possible. An immense satisfaction.
What are, in your opinion, the difficulties that many women encounter when they approach running? And how can they overcome them?
The biggest difficulty? The head.
Many women give up before they even start, due to lack of confidence, guilt, or because they “ don’t find the time”. Through the courses we try to give complete support. Running is not easy, but with gradualness and the right strategies you can start without feeling overwhelmed.
It's time gained, not stolen.
If you had to choose three words that running has taught you…
Sharing. Consistency. Organization.
After running… how do you take care of yourself? What is your sportscare routine?
Can I start earlier? My cat wakes me up at 5, and from there my morning ritual starts: mobility, a little ' of yoga or light weights and coffee with almond milk.
Then I use WARMUP OIL or WARMUP CREAM by SPORTLAB Milano. It's my personal countdown: when I put it on, I know I'm about to start running.
I accompany Anna to school (already dressed for training!) and as soon as I say goodbye to her… I leave.
After running, stretching and COOLDOWN CREAM , and if the day is intense, a nice leg massage with ' oil, after Dr. Missori's anti-gravity exercises.
In the evening? To bed at 9:30 pm. Sleeping well is part of ' training.
